Project Claire Beaudouin

The duo Chant-Piano around Gurs
Claire Beaudouin and Melina Burlaud have been working for several years to save the music played and composed in Gurs from being forgotten and to make it audible. They played in the Camp de Gurs as part of the ‘Echappées musicales’ in June 2018 and 2022. They took part in the opening of the exhibition ‘Gurs 1940’ at the French Embassy in Berlin, Darmstadt and the Blue House in Breisach (Germany) in 2021 and at Sciences-Po Bordeaux in 2022. At the French Embassy in Berlin, they gave lectures and concerts on ‘Music in the Gurs Camp’ and ‘Les Mélodies de la Shoah’. Other performances on the topic included at the festivals ‘Les idées mènent les monde’ in Pau, ‘Printemps de la mémoire’ in Corrèze, in front of the Bundestag in Berlin in 2022, as well as at the ‘Days of Exile’ at the National Library and the Exile Archive in Frankfurt, in the exhibition ‘La musique dans les camps nazis’ at the Mémorial de la Shoah in Paris. They are involved in educational activities and give concerts for secondary school pupils as part of the Franco-German youth exchange programme to commemorate the Shoah. A project to record the works composed in the Gurs camp is supported by the Spanish embassy and the Fondation pour la Mémoire de la Shoah.
