Presentation of the sculpture RESTLICHT

The internment camp was once a camp of horror. From 1940, Hannah Arendt and Marta Feuchtwanger, among others, were imprisoned here as undesirable Germans, as were 6,500 Jews from Baden, the Palatinate and Saarland. Today, this site can also be seen as a symbol of Franco-German co-operation. With his temporary sculpture RESTLICHT, Munich-based sculptor Werner Mally is making an innovative contribution to the current debate on forms of artistic remembrance culture as part of our festival.
