Terre et Temps

TERRE ET TEMPS | ERDE UND ZEIT
A European arts and culture festival on the basis of Franco-German friendship

Democracy is a challenge. It is exactly what we make of it. It is a form of government and at the same time a bouquet of unifying values. A vibrant, open society requires encounters, a direct exchange of experiences and shared experiences between all groups. Shaping and enjoying life together means being in dialogue.

The Terre et Temps | Erde und Zeit festival aims to do just that. A festival that has set itself the goal of providing an important building block for Europe and deepening Franco-German friendship, especially now in view of the current overlapping world events and trouble spots.

Terre et Temps | Erde und Zeit is designed to creatively strengthen the appreciation of our common EARTH and the dimension of TIME – a challenge that affects each and every one of us every day. Expertise and commitment from civil society are crucial across borders. We combine art and craft, culture and nature, science and business and shed light on the hidden, on traditions and rituals, on historical processes and the present, on the divisive and the reconciliatory. We take a multifaceted look at what makes our lives rich and complex and unites us all. In this way, we understand art and culture as genuine elements of democracy and emphasise the important role they play as mediators between states, society, the environment, our visions and actions. Our aim: Building bridges, learning from each other and seeing cultural differences as an opportunity.

The examination of the Béarn des Gaves region and the involvement of local civil society with various associations in an artistic process are an integral part of our concept, which also takes ecological conditions into account.

Terre et Temps | Erde und Zeit it considers itself as a long, delicate, democratic process in which all participants create a great shared experience.

The artists‘ contributions include sound and multimedia art, installations, sculptures, performances, concerts, films and panel discussions.

We invite you to three inspiring days that are both down-to-earth and high-flying, filled with spirit, enjoyment and conviviality, that excite and inspire, to marvel, discover and recognise, contradict and rediscover. We bring together country and people, young and old, from far and near, a small circle that wants to shape a large space in a multifaceted and future-orientated way.

Recognising cultural significance in rural, structurally weak areas is also a genuine component of our Franco-German initiative. Accordingly, the festival takes place away from large cities and tourist centres, in a scenic region between the French Pyrenees and the Atlantic.

Tradition and history intertwine at the Château d’Orion and in the tranquil historic villages of Sauveterre, Salies and Navarrenx in the Béarn des Gaves.
