After more than 15 years in Morocco, the busy painter and draughtsman now lives with his family in Salies-de-Béarn. His work is multi-faceted and multi-layered. They are often large-format compositions in ink, acrylic or collage, in which handwritten lettering plays a significant role. Between bound and unbound, fracture and graphic, repetition and entanglement, Yann Chatelin plays with calligraphed letters that appear to us as real or imagined alphabets.
From Casablanca to Kathmandu, his motifs conquer canvases and house facades. They are often expressive portraits of locals whose intensity and subject matter have a far-reaching effect on their surroundings
